Hi, my name is Maciek and I am passionate about history. I love discovering new places and learning their story.

I have been living in Brisbane, Australia for over 7 years now and I originally come from Poland. Wherever I go I find myself curious about stories behind buildings and places I see. Some of the facts I’m going to share here might be obvious for those of you who have lived here longer than me but for me they are still new discoveries. However some facts might be new for you too.

On this blog I’m going to share interesting information I have learnt about places we see every day, not only those well known historical icons but also ordinary places hiding fascinating stories.  You will read here some interesting facts about buildings and areas I see when I walk or cycle around Brisbane or when I go travelling in Queensland. History is around us; wherever we go we can find something fascinating there. It can be the history of the building you’re passing by every day or there might have been an event in a past that shaped the story of the local community or city.

As an example, few weeks ago I was walking at Kelvin Grove Urban Village and found metal plates in footpath under my feet. It included the future sites of Gona Barracks, QUT and the Grammar School.” I will write more about this area later.

Watch your steps... history is everywhere -) In the 1860s Victoria Park was declared a recreational reserve and became one of the earliest and largest public parks in Brisbane. It included the future sites of

Remember, history is everywhere. I hope you enjoy my posts.
